When Santosha Yoga opened the doors four years ago, part of the designed schedule was dedicated to giving back to the community. Both owners, Dina and Katy, are committed to yoga for every body, to every person who needs, wants, or could benefit from yoga. Their intention manifested into weekly donation based classes that they call Karma Yoga. It’s an opportunity each week to remove some of the financial barriers that may prevent people who want yoga from doing it. It takes the emphasis of profit, numbers, and sales out of yoga to bring it back to the root of selflessness.
It's an opportunity for us as a studio, as well as individual yogis, to give back.
Karma yoga ensures weekly yoga classes are dedicated to doing good by donating the proceeds to a local non-profit. You can find our karma yoga classes (i.e. “community classes” or “donation classes”) on our weekly schedule and drop into one any time. Currently, we offer two: Align & Flow on Sunday mornings which is an all levels practice with an emphasis on alignment. The second is Family Yoga offered on the first and third Saturdays. Family Yoga brings the fun and connection of yoga to all family members ages three and up. The proceeds from karma yoga are donated to Living Yoga.
Living Yoga is a non-profit in Portland, OR with a mission of teaching yoga as a personal tool for change. Living Yoga brings the yoga practice to people who have experienced trauma and could use the healing power of yoga. Read more about Living Yoga.
